About: Mu Cang Chai is a rural district of Yen Bai Province, in the Northwest region of Vietnam. Mu Cang Chai is located by Asia’s Red River, and contains an array of colorful mountain villages which are encircled by fields of towering rice terraces. The fields are agricultural feats of precision, with mountains covered with emerald stairways that, seemingly, ascend to the sky’s above.
When to go: Although it is said there is never a bad season to go and see Mu Cang Chai, as the rice terraces and their views are stunning year-round, the best time to visit would be harvest season. Harvest Season begins in September and ends in October and during this time the slopes transform into seas of gold offering some of the most spectacular views.
During May and June, the fields become flooded creating a reflecting picture of pure nature, which marks the start of the new crop.

Mu Cang Chai also has a Paragliding Festival which takes place every weekend from May 30 until July 15. This festival is hosted by Vietwings Hanoi Club and participants have a chance to glide over this majestic landscape with the help of professional paragliders. Adventurists are also invited to explore the area with activities such as food tastings, games and community tours.
